MUMBAI, India: Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped unhurt after gunmen opened fire at his car in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening, injuring his driver and an autorickshaw driver, police said.

Police said the shooting took place near Pushpa Park in the western suburb while Shroff was returning from playing football at a club. Three motorcycle-borne attackers were reported to have been involved in the attack.

Teams, including personnel from the Mumbai Crime Branch and local police, have been formed to investigate the shooting and trace those responsible, officials said.

Shroff’s father, veteran actor Jackie Shroff, confirmed that his son was safe and was assisting police at the station.

Bishnoi Gang Claims Responsibility

A social media post reportedly issued by members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack and threatened further attacks against people in Mumbai’s film industry who work with actor Salman Khan.

Mumbai Police have not confirmed any link between the gang and the attack.

In the post, a man identified as Anil Pandit claimed that he and Harman Sandhu were responsible for the shooting. The message said they had previously contacted Shroff and attempted to warn him.

“We, Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu, take responsibility for what happened to Tiger Shroff today,” the post said, adding that the actor had failed to heed their warning.

The message threatened that others in the film industry who worked with Salman Khan or ignored the group’s warnings would be targeted next.

Police said the motive for the shooting remained unclear and would be established as the investigation progressed.

Police Examine CCTV, Collect Ballistic Evidence

A police official said Shroff had sustained no injuries in the firing. His driver, identified in reports as Firdaus, suffered an injury to his left hand, while an autorickshaw driver identified as Chauhan was also injured. Both were taken for medical treatment.

Preliminary information indicated that the assailants opened fire as Shroff was about to get into his BMW, according to a witness account reported by Indian media.

Police cordoned off the area and launched a search for the attackers. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding streets to establish how many people were involved and identify their movements before and after the shooting.

“The Juhu Police have launched a detailed inquiry to ascertain the exact sequence of events, verify the circumstances surrounding the firing, and track down those involved,” the police official said.

Recent Attacks Raise Security Concerns

The shooting comes amid concerns over attacks and threats involving prominent figures in Mumbai’s entertainment industry.

On February 1, unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu shortly after midnight.

Several rounds were fired at the nine-storey building, and a bullet struck the glass of a gym on the first floor.

In October 2024, veteran politician and Nationalist Congress Party leader Baba Siddique, 66, was shot dead outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Mumbai’s Bandra East area.

Three masked assailants fired multiple rounds as he was entering his car, striking him in the chest and abdomen.

The latest shooting has heightened concern in the film industry.

Shroff, born Jai Hemant Shroff on March 2, 1990, made his acting debut in the 2014 film Heropanti.

A martial artist, he holds a fifth-degree black belt in Taekwondo. He also co-founded Matrix Fight Night, an Indian mixed martial arts promotion, in 2019.
