IT exports totalled $1.25 billion in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, covering July to September, he said.
Schehzad attributed the growth to targeted incentives for exporters, particularly in the IT sector, in the FY27 budget, as well as to the expansion of Pakistan’s digital economy.
He said the gains supported foreign exchange earnings without adding to debt, and created high-value jobs and connected Pakistani businesses with international markets.
Pakistan freelancers’ record
Pakistan’s freelancers earned a record $197 million from exports in September, up 49 per cent year-on-year and 11 per cent from August, according to Schehzad.
Freelance export earnings reached around $550 million in the first quarter of FY27, a 46 per cent increase from the same period last year.

IT and freelance services are an important source of foreign exchange for Pakistan, generating overseas earnings without creating the repayment obligations associated with external borrowing. Sustaining this growth will depend on international demand, reliable digital infrastructure, access to global payment channels and a predictable policy environment for technology businesses and independent professionals.
