NAGOYA: Pakistan secured the silver medal in the men’s squash team event at the Asian Games after losing to Malaysia in the gold medal match at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
Malaysia claimed the team title, while Pakistan finished runners-up to secure a podium finish after a strong campaign throughout the competition.
Pakistan reached the final after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Hong Kong, China in the semi-final at the Nagoya Kinjo-Futo Arena.
The semi-final saw Pakistan recover from an early setback as Noor Zaman lost his opening match. Muhammad Ashab Irfan levelled the tie with a composed victory before Nasir Iqbal won the decisive match to send Pakistan into the final.
In the title clash, Pakistan’s campaign faced a difficult challenge as Nasir Iqbal and Noor Zaman were defeated in their respective matches, allowing Malaysia to secure the gold medal.
Despite missing out on the top position, Pakistan’s silver medal marked another successful outing in squash at the Asian Games.
Earlier in the competition, Pakistan also secured two bronze medals in the men’s singles event, with Noor Zaman and Muhammad Ashab Irfan finishing third.
The team’s medal added to Pakistan’s growing achievements at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, with the squash squad delivering multiple podium finishes across individual and team events.
