RIYADH: Spokesperson of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, Major General Turki Al-Malki, said on Thursday that a terrorist attack targeted the Taibah electricity distribution station in Madinah at 5:11 am on September 29, 2026.

The spokesperson said an investigation by the competent authorities, supported by evidence including the wreckage of the drone used in the attack and an after-action review, confirmed the involvement of the Houthi militia in planning and carrying out the attack, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The attack caused one power transformer to be taken out of service but did not affect the wider electricity network.

The coalition said the attack targeted a civilian facility supplying electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah and described it as part of the militia’s attempts to target the Two Holy Mosques and provoke Muslims worldwide.

The Coalition continues to take and implement measures to deter the Terrorist Houthi Militia, ensuring the protection of the Two Holy Mosques and the safety of the pilgrims in Makkah and Madinah.

UN Security Council slams Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia

The United Nations Security Council last Friday strongly condemned Houthi militia attacks on Saudi Arabia that targeted civilian and energy infrastructure.

“The members of the Security Council condemned, in the strongest terms, continued Houthi attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including attacks impacting civilian and energy infrastructure, which have resulted in the injury of civilians, including women and children,” said the rotating president of the Council, French envoy Jerome Bonnafont, delivering a joint statement.

The Security Council “further stressed the importance of acting in accordance with international law, in particular the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and of upholding navigation rights and freedoms.”

The body “demanded the Houthis immediately cease their military escalation and their attacks impacting civilians and civilian objects,” according to the statement.
