NEW YORK: The United Nations Security Council on Friday strongly condemned Houthi militia attacks on Saudi Arabia that targeted civilian and energy infrastructure.
“The members of the Security Council condemned, in the strongest terms, continued Houthi attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including attacks impacting civilian and energy infrastructure, which have resulted in the injury of civilians, including women and children,” said the rotating president of the Council, French envoy Jerome Bonnafont, delivering a joint statement.
The Security Council “further stressed the importance of acting in accordance with international law, in particular the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and of upholding navigation rights and freedoms.”
The body “demanded the Houthis immediately cease their military escalation and their attacks impacting civilians and civilian objects,” according to the statement.

Members also condemned attacks and threats against shipping in the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab, and stressed the need to uphold navigation rights and freedoms.
Reaffirming their support for the Yemeni government and their commitment to the country’s unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, council members said that “sustainable peace in Yemen cannot be achieved through violence, coercion, or use of force.”
Saudi Air Defences destroy six Houthi ballistic missiles
Saudi air defences on Thursday intercepted and destroyed six ballistic missiles launched by Yemen’s Houthi militia towards the Saudi cities of Taif and Yanbu, Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen spokesperson Major General Turki al-Malki said.
“Six ballistic missiles launched by the terrorist Houthi militia were intercepted and destroyed,” the Coalition spokesperson said, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The coalition’s spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki said in posts on social media platform X that the air defences thwarted an attempt to target Taif and Yanbu.

“Air defences foil terrorist Houthi militia attacks on Taif and Yanbu,” the Coalition spokesperson said, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
“Escalations and violations by the terrorist Houthi militia will be dealt with firmly,” the Coalition spokesperson said.
“The Coalition vows a firm response to escalations,” the Coalition spokesperson said as cited by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Earlier, the Saudi civil defence issued alerts warning of potential danger in the holy city of Makkah, the northwestern area of Tabuk, the Red Sea areas of Jeddah and Yanbu, and the southern area of Taif.
Arab League condemns Houthi missile attacks on Saudi Arabia
The General Secretariat of the Arab League strongly condemned the Houthi militia’s launch of ballistic missiles targeting several cities and regions across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In a statement issued today, the secretariat underscored that recurring attacks on Saudi territory represent a severe escalation and a direct threat to the Kingdom’s security and stability. It affirmed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and voiced complete support for all measures taken to defend its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity under international law and the UN Charter.

The statement stressed that sustained Houthi escalation undermines opportunities for a political settlement to the Yemeni crisis and obstructs efforts to restart the peace process.
The Arab League reiterated its backing for regional and international initiatives aimed at achieving a comprehensive political solution in Yemen, grounded in established terms of reference and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216, to preserve the country’s unity, sovereignty, and independence.
Saudi King Salman condemns Houthi Militia’s repeated attempts to target Makkah
Earlier this month Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Tuesday condemned the terrorist Houthi militia’s repeated attempts to target Makkah—an act met with widespread international condemnation and denunciation—emphasising that this heinous crime, which violates the sanctity of the holy sites, provokes the sentiments of Muslims worldwide.
Chairing the Saudi Cabinet session in Jeddah, King Salman acknowledged the role of Saudi military and security personnel and their brave heroes in defending the homeland and firmly confronting any aggression against the holy sites, the pilgrims, and the Kingdom’s citizens and residents, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Security Council backs Saudi Arabia’s right to self-defence
Last week, the Security Council had also strongly condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, affirming the Kingdom’s inherent right to defend itself under international law and expressing solidarity with Riyadh in protecting its people, territory and critical infrastructure.
In a statement, council members condemned the continued Houthi attacks against Saudi territory, including strikes affecting civilian and energy infrastructure that have injured civilians, including women and children.
The council affirmed “the inherent right of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to self-defence in accordance with international law” and expressed solidarity with Riyadh in the face of attacks affecting civilians and civilian objects.
