LOS ANGELES, United States: American top singer Taylor Swift has announced an expanded edition of her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, adding four new songs written after the record achieved historic commercial success.

Titled The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, the expanded album will be released on Friday, Swift announced on Instagram.

The original album, released last October, made chart history when all 12 of its songs occupied the top 12 positions on the Billboard Hot 100.

Four new songs join the album

Swift said the additional tracks were created after the album recorded what she described as the biggest debut for an album in modern music history based on sales and streams.

She said she travelled to Sweden to celebrate the album’s success with longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback. During the trip, the trio returned to the studio and wrote new material.

The expanded edition will include ‘Patient Zero’, which Swift teased before officially announcing it on Tuesday, along with ‘Cleveland!’, ‘Pink Clouding’ and ‘Babylon’.

Martin and Shellback have collaborated with Swift on several of her previous studio albums.

New release follows Emmy appearance

Swift’s announcement comes after her appearance earlier this month in a comedy sketch at the Emmy Awards, where fans interpreted elements of the appearance as hints that new music could be coming.

The original Showgirl campaign has already produced major streaming numbers. Its lead single, ‘The Fate of Ophelia’, generated 92.5 million official US streams during its opening week, according to Luminate, which tracks music consumption and sales.

With The Encore, Swift is now adding four songs to an album that has already set multiple commercial and chart records.
