ECP Summons Important Meeting Today to Discuss KP Elections

PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan has summoned an important meeting today (Wednesday) to discuss the forthcoming elections for the provincial assembly of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

According to details, the ECP has received a letter written by Governor KP Haji Ghulam Ali pertaining to the date for holding elections across the province. Sources said the ECP will release the election schedule in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa soon. The electoral body needs 54 days to make preparations for the polls.

According to the sources Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman has so far not informed about the date for holding the polls in the province.

ECP letters to CMs Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

Meanwhile, sources added that the ECP wrote separate letters to Chief Ministers of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, directing them to complete transfers and postings across the province. It is pertinent to mention here that Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali has suggested April 16 as the date for polling across the province.

Governor KP had penned down letter to the ECP, suggesting April 16 as the date for holding polls. Meanwhile, Commissioner Peshawar also confirmed the development, saying that Governor had written a letter to the ECP to inform the body about the date for the polls.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assembly was dissolved on the advice of Chief Minister Mahmood Khan.
