KARACHI: Pakistan secured its first medal at the 2026 Asian Games after mixed martial artist Asim Khan claimed bronze in his event, marking a strong start for the country’s campaign at the continental competition.
The Karachi-based fighter reached the semifinals of the mixed martial arts event, where his run ended, but his place among the final four guaranteed him a bronze medal under the tournament format.
Historic Asian Games medal
The achievement marks Asim Khan’s first Asian Games medal and adds another milestone to his growing international career.
Before this success, Khan had already earned recognition on the global stage, winning a bronze medal at the World Championships and a silver medal at the Asian level.

Team leader Dalawar Khan praised the fighter’s performance, saying Asim’s achievement had opened Pakistan’s medal account at the Games and provided momentum for the country’s athletes competing in other disciplines.
Pakistan’s campaign continues
Pakistan’s athletes remain active across multiple events as the Asian Games progress.
Swimmer Hamza Asif finished second in his heat of the men’s 50-metre freestyle, while Pakistan’s mixed triathlon team completed their competition with a 14th-place overall ranking.
Coach Abdul Ghaffar Gujjar expressed satisfaction with the team’s efforts, highlighting the athletes’ performances against strong regional competition.
The country is also participating in events including table tennis and soft tennis, with more competitions scheduled in the coming days.
Asim Khan’s bronze medal has provided Pakistan with an early boost at the Games, with the national team aiming to add further medals across different sporting disciplines.
