NEW DELHI: Samsung India’s head of public affairs and environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives, Rajiv Aggarwal, has resigned from his position after nearly four years with the company.
Aggarwal, who managed Samsung’s engagement with the Indian government, is serving his final week at Samsung India.
The reason for his resignation was not immediately clear. Aggarwal, a former Indian bureaucrat who has also worked at Uber and Meta, did not comment on the matter, while Samsung Electronics did not respond to requests for comment.
Policy Disputes Grow
The leadership change comes as global technology companies operating in India face increasing regulatory discussions with authorities.
Samsung and other major smartphone manufacturers, including Apple, have recently opposed government demands related to the pre-installation of state-run applications, citing concerns over privacy and operational issues.

Samsung is also among companies that have challenged in court an Indian government policy related to electronic waste management, which increases payments required from businesses to recycling firms.
Samsung’s India Presence
Samsung remains one of the largest smartphone companies in India, holding around 16.2 per cent of the country’s smartphone market, according to industry data.
The South Korean technology giant shared the second position with Oppo, behind market leader Vivo. Samsung was India’s leading smartphone brand in 2023.
Aggarwal’s departure comes as technology companies continue to balance expansion in India’s large consumer market with evolving regulatory requirements.
The company has invested heavily in India’s manufacturing and digital ecosystem, with the country remaining a key market for global smartphone and electronics firms.
