EDGBASTON, England: Former England captain Michael Vaughan has hailed Pakistan’s newest cricket sensation Razaullah as a “gem” after the 21-year-old all-rounder produced a remarkable Test debut against England at Edgbaston, combining a four-wicket haul with a breathtaking counter-attacking innings.
Razaullah announced his arrival on the international stage with a fearless 81 off just 63 balls, smashing four boundaries and nine sixes. His innings equalled New Zealand’s Tim Southee’s record for the most sixes by a batter on Test debut.

The youngster came to the crease with Pakistan facing the prospect of another innings defeat in the third and final Test, with only the lower order remaining. However, his aggressive strokeplay changed the momentum of the innings and gave Pakistan renewed hope.
Razaullah shared a memorable 121-run ninth-wicket partnership with Mohammad Abbas, who scored 42 off 67 deliveries, lifting Pakistan’s second innings from 318 for eight to 449.
He had already impressed with the ball, claiming four wickets during England’s innings, including the prized dismissal of England captain Joe Root with his first Test wicket.

Razaullah’s rise to international cricket has been extraordinary. Before earning his Pakistan call-up, the youngster had signed to play club cricket for Cleethorpes in the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League during the 2026 season.

Vaughan predicts a bright future
Speaking on BBC Test Match Special, Vaughan said England remained likely to win the match but praised Pakistan for discovering a player with immense potential.
“England win this Test match, I am certain, but you know they have unearthed a gem. He is going to be a star for years to come,” Vaughan said.
Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja also praised Razaullah’s fighting spirit and body language, describing his performance as exactly what Pakistan cricket needed.
“Exactly what Pakistan cricket needs now, and that was what they needed on a tour like this,” Ramiz said.
