ISLAMABAD: The foreign ministers of Pakistan and Kuwait discussed regional developments on Monday as tensions between Iran and the United States escalated, with Tehran issuing a fresh warning that it could target US energy assets in the Gulf region.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf warned on Monday that Tehran would target US assets across the Middle East if Washington launched further attacks.
His remarks came after the two countries exchanged strikes over the weekend, fueling concerns about a broader regional escalation and pushing oil prices to near six-week highs on Monday.
Dar spoke to Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah over the phone, the Pakistani foreign office said.

“The two foreign ministers discussed bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, and exchanged views on regional developments,” the statement said.
It added that Dar and Al-Sabah agreed to remain in close contact and meet on the sidelines of the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Iran has carried out attacks on civilian infrastructure in Gulf countries since the US-Iran war began in February. Pakistan has repeatedly condemned such attacks and called on both Tehran and Washington to resolve their differences through dialogue and diplomacy.
Islamabad MoU framework for peace
Under the Islamabad MoU, the US and Iran committed to halt military operations, reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping and negotiate a comprehensive agreement covering Iran’s nuclear programme, US sanctions and a permanent ceasefire within 60 days.

Pakistan and Qatar are mediating between Tehran and Washington under the framework of the Islamabad MoU to permanently end the conflict.
Islamabad and Doha later co-mediated the first round of high-level talks in Lucerne, Switzerland, on June 21. The meeting was attended by US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
