LAHORE: Pakistan is targeting a $1 billion annual fruit, vegetable and value-added export industry within the next two to three years, seeking to capitalise on its vast agricultural production and growing international demand.
Pakistan exported approximately $471 million worth of fresh fruits and vegetables in FY26, comprising $308 million in fruits and $163 million in vegetables, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics data.
Rai Omar, chief financial officer of SE Fruits & Vegetables Limited, said the $1 billion target was achievable by increasing the share of domestic production reaching overseas markets.
Pakistan Eyes Bigger Share of Global Market
Pakistan produces around 2.1 million tonnes of kinnow, more than 1.8 million tonnes of mangoes and approximately 12 million tonnes of potatoes annually.
However, post-harvest losses across the fruit and vegetable supply chain are estimated at 30-40%, leaving significant room to increase exports without dramatically expanding production.

Rai said improved sorting, grading, packaging, cold-chain infrastructure, phytosanitary compliance and stronger connections with international buyers could unlock substantial export potential.
The combined global market for oranges, mangoes and potatoes is estimated at around $236 billion, meaning $1 billion in Pakistani exports would still represent less than 0.5% of the market.
A broader industry roadmap announced by the Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters and Merchants Association and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan in December 2025 aims to increase fruit, vegetable and value-added exports to $2 billion within three years.
