ISLAMABAD: In a heartwarming recognition of extraordinary courage, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has paid glowing tribute to nurse Razia Noreen, the brave Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) employee who risked her own life to save a newborn baby during the devastating hospital fire that sent shockwaves across the nation.

The prime minister, visibly moved by her selfless act, met with Razia at the Prime Minister’s Office and hailed her as a true hero whose bravery would be remembered for generations. “You risked your life to save the baby. May Allah reward you. The whole nation is proud of you. You are a daughter of the nation,” PM Shehbaz said during the emotional meeting.
The tragic blaze at Pims had plunged the hospital into chaos, but amidst the smoke and fear, Razia’s unwavering courage emerged as a beacon of hope. The prime minister announced that she would be conferred with the prestigious Tamgha-i-Khidmat on March 23, along with a cash reward of Rs10 million in recognition of her exceptional valour.
“You showed great courage, and your act will be remembered forever. The mother of the rescued child will pray for you for the rest of her life,” the prime minister added, praising her quick thinking and selflessness in the face of grave danger.

‘Without thinking twice, I went inside’
Recounting the terrifying ordeal, Razia said she was on duty during medication time when she noticed the fire breaking out. Without a moment’s hesitation, she sprang into action.
“I saw the fire during medication time and, without thinking twice, went inside. I told the other sister to save the babies,” Razia recalled.

She described how she spotted a tiny infant and immediately scooped the child up, rushing outside to safety. She handed the baby to a person she knew before turning back to rescue more children trapped inside the burning facility.
However, as she attempted to go back in, a sudden blast occurred, plunging the area into darkness and forcing her to retreat. Despite the harrowing circumstances, Razia’s bravery ensured that at least one precious life was saved from the inferno.
