Malaysian PM Appreciates Pakistan’s Middle East Peace Efforts

ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday held a telephone conversation with his Malaysian counterpart Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim during which the two sides discussed the regional developments.

During their conversation, the two Prime Ministers expressed their satisfaction at the current positive trajectory of bilateral cooperation between Islamabad and Kuala Lumpur, according to a statement issued by the PM House’s media wing.

They resolved to continue this momentum, particularly with a view to enhancing their trade and investment ties.

Regional developments, particularly the situation in the Gulf, also came up for discussion.

Dr Anwar Ibrahim commended Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their leadership in advancing these initiatives.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Malaysian premier for consistent support for Islamabad’ regional peace efforts and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to working closely with brotherly and friendly countries, including Malaysia, to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.

The two leaders agreed to meet at a mutually convenient time in the near future.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also renewed his invitation to Dr Anwar Ibrahim to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a meeting with Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad.

According to a Foreign Office statement, the two sides reaffirmed close and brotherly ties between the two countries and discussed ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and economy, mutual legal assistance and people-to-people exchanges.

“They also exchanged views on regional and International developments of mutual interest and reaffirmed commitment to working closely for shared objectives of peace, stability and prosperity,” the FO statement said.

Pakistan and Malaysia enjoy close and longstanding ties rooted in shared values, mutual respect and strong people-to-people connections. The two countries continue to cooperate across political, economic, defence and regional issues, while supporting each other in promoting peace, stability and development.
