ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan was taken back to Adiala jail after undergoing a medical check-up at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) in Islamabad, where doctors declared him medically fit.
The former premier was taken to the hospital in compliance with a Supreme Court order issued earlier this week, amid heightened security around the facility.

Doctors declared Khan medically fit, while his sister Uzma Khan remained present throughout the examination and treatment, Tarar said and added that Khan was returned to Adiala jail at around 5 am on Aug 21 after the process was completed.
Security concerns led to PIMS transfer
Tarar said Khan was taken to PIMS due to the security situation created by PTI workers along the route to and outside Shifa Hospital. He said Khan was found to be medically fit and would continue to receive medical care whenever required.

Mr Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023. He is currently serving a 14-year sentence at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail in the £190 million corruption case, also known as the Al-Qadir Trust case.
Supreme Court hospital order
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court directed the government to shift Mr Khan to Shifa International Hospital within two days for medical treatment.
The three-member bench was headed by Justice Shahid Waheed and included Justices Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Ishtiaq Ibrahim.
The ruling came as the court heard several petitions seeking Mr Khan’s hospitalisation and meetings with his family members.
The government subsequently filed a review petition in the Supreme Court, seeking the recall of the order requiring Mr Khan’s transfer to hospital.
The petition, filed by Islamabad Advocate General Naveed Hayat Malik on behalf of the federal capital’s chief commissioner, described the Supreme Court’s interim order as “discriminatory”.
It argued that the order was “in excess of jurisdiction” and should therefore be reviewed.
However, on Thursday, the Supreme Court registrar’s office returned the review petition against the 18 August order, citing incomplete paper books as the reason.
