JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia’s King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH) in Jeddah has received Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education, enabling it to provide accredited continuing education programmes for healthcare professionals from different disciplines.

The accreditation was granted by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, and the American Nurses Credentialing Centre, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

It recognises healthcare institutions that deliver high-quality education by bringing together professionals from multiple disciplines to strengthen teamwork, improve performance, and enhance patient outcomes.

KFSH Jeddah earned the accreditation after meeting rigorous standards covering the identification of gaps in professional practice and learning needs, the development of multidisciplinary educational activities, the use of active-learning methods, and the alignment of programmes with competencies required by healthcare teams.

The hospital also demonstrated its ability to measure educational outcomes while maintaining standards of integrity and independence in accredited continuing education.

Multidisciplinary education supports patient safety

Among the initiatives that contributed to the accreditation were active, case-based learning programmes involving multiple healthcare disciplines, along with a structured framework for measuring the outcomes and impact of educational activities.

The initiatives also included medication-safety programmes and efforts aimed at preventing needle-stick injuries.

The accreditation is expected to strengthen collaboration among healthcare professionals, enhance the capabilities of multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to improvements in patient safety and quality of care.
