KABUL, Afghanistan: Several anti-Taliban fronts carried out 19 attacks across nine provinces of Afghanistan over the past 10 days, claiming to have killed 33 Taliban regime fighters and wounded dozens more, as armed groups continue to challenge the Taliban regime in the country.
Taliban regime has acknowledged clashes only in parts of Badakhshan province, while rejecting claims that resistance groups seized any of their outposts. Taliban regime has not commented on the reported casualties or the other attacks.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front said it conducted seven attacks between July 30 and August 9, claiming to have killed 16 Taliban regime fighters and wounded 19 others in Badakhshan, Kunduz, Nangarhar and Faryab provinces.
The front also claimed to have temporarily captured several Taliban regime checkpoints in Badakhshan.
Military analyst Samad Samadi, cited by Amu TV, said the attacks suggest that armed opposition groups continue to challenge Taliban regime forces in some parts of the country.
“The armed groups opposing the Taliban have continued their operations and have sought to challenge Taliban forces,” Samadi said.
The United Front of Afghanistan separately claimed responsibility for 10 attacks during the same period, saying 15 Taliban regime fighters were killed and 15 others wounded in operations across Baghlan, Faryab, Kandahar, Helmand, Badghis, Badakhshan and Ghor provinces.
The National Resistance Front also claimed that its fighters killed two Taliban regime members in an attack in Herat on July 30, while the military wing of the Green Trend, led by former Vice President Amrullah Saleh, said it targeted a Taliban fuel convoy in the Salang Pass on Saturday.
Taliban regime has confirmed only that clashes took place in the Zebak and Yaftal districts of Badakhshan.
Meanwhile, the People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) announced its presence and activities in Kabul in a statement and declared that it would resort to armed struggle against the Taliban regime.
The resistance group described the Taliban as “servants of imperialism” and said it had begun activities in the Afghan capital.

The announcement comes as several anti-Taliban groups have stepped up attacks on Taliban regime positions and fighters in different parts of Afghanistan.
The developments point to continued armed opposition to the Taliban despite the regime’s repeated claims that it has established security across the country.
Speaking recently, Mohammad Ismail Ghaznawi, the Taliban regime governor of Badakhshan, dismissed the armed opposition as incapable of undermining Taliban rule.
“I tell both foreign and domestic enemies that if they dream of disrupting the Islamic system or Afghanistan’s stability, they will take those dreams to the grave,” he said.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has previously said there are no active armed opposition groups inside Afghanistan, arguing that such groups exist mainly on social media.
