ISLAMABAD: Türkiye emphatically stated on Friday that its joint defence pact signed with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan amid the US-Iran war was “not aimed at any particular country”.
“The Mecca Agreement, which is not aimed at any particular country, will strengthen the shared security and collective deterrence of the three nations… thereby making significant contributions to the preservation of peace and stability in our region,” Burhanettin Duran, the Turkish presidency’s communications director, posted on X.
Duran said the agreement was a “historic step” towards strengthening the three countries’ shared history, “deep-rooted bonds of brotherhood” and resolve for solidarity on a strategic foundation.

He said the pact would also advance defence industry cooperation and military interoperability among the three countries.
According to Duran, the agreement reflected the determination of Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to build the security architecture of the future together and uphold the shared values of countries that “stand shoulder to shoulder in difficult times”.
He described the agreement, signed in Mecca, as a potential contribution to regional peace, security and stability and expressed hope that strategic cooperation between the three countries would grow stronger.
Trilateral defence pact
Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement in Mecca on Friday, strengthening military cooperation and collective security among the three countries. The pact provides that an attack on one of the three countries would be considered an attack on all three, according to reports on the agreement.

The agreement comes against the backdrop of the ongoing US-Iran war and heightened security tensions across the Middle East.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had already signed a bilateral mutual defence pact in September 2025, under which aggression against either country was to be considered aggression against both. The two countries have maintained close military ties for decades, including Pakistani military deployments and training cooperation in Saudi Arabia.

The new trilateral agreement brings Türkiye into that broader security framework and also envisages greater cooperation in defence industries, military interoperability and collective deterrence.
