ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces have killed 10 Indian backed terrorists in two separate engagements in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military’s media wing said in a statement on Friday.
“In the first encounter, a group of Khwarij belonging to Indian Proxy, Fitna Al Khwarij attempted to attack Security Forces Check Posts in the general area Azam Warsak, South Waziristan District,” Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
Fitna-al-Khawarij is a term the state uses for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist group, which is based in Afghanistan and involved in terrorist attacks inside Pakistan.

The attempted attack was effectively foiled by security forces. During the ensuing exchange of fire, eight terrorists were killed in precise and coordinated engagements by the troops.
In a separate operation in Dir District, security forces successfully neutralized two other terrorists.
Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the killed terrorists, who were involved in multiple terrorist activities in the area.
Sanitisation operation underway
The ISPR said sanitisation operations were being conducted to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area, as a relentless counterterrorism campaign under the vision “Azm e Istehkam” (as approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan) by Security Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan would continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country.
President, PM laud security forces
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minster Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have commended security forces for eliminating ten Indian backed terrorists in South Waziristan and Dir.
In a statement, they said the nation stands with its brave security forces and law enforcement agencies and highly values their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

The President said that the nefarious designs of terrorist elements operating with Indian patronage will be thwarted at all costs.
In his message, the Prime Minister said the nation takes pride in the professional competence, courage and sacrifices of the brave personnel of its security forces.
He said under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, operations against terrorists will continue with full determination until the complete eradication of terrorism.
Pakistan witnesses surge in terror activities
Pakistan witnessed a surge in terror activities, particularly in its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, since 2021, when the Afghan Taliban came into power.

Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Taliban regime to dismantle terrorist sanctuaries on Afghan soil, particularly those linked to the banned TTP terrorist network. However, the Taliban regime failed to take any action against the terrorist sanctuaries on Afghan soil.
A monthly security assessment published in early June by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reported that Pakistan’s security situation deteriorated sharply in May after showing improvement over the previous two months. The decline was attributed mainly to a surge in terrorist violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
According to the report, Balochistan was the worst-affected province, recording 71 terrorist attacks in May, up from 34 in April—a 109 per cent increase.
