ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has underscored the importance of enhancing people-to-people contacts and expanding exchanges between political parties and parliaments with China.
Prime Minister Sharif made the remarks during a meeting with Ambassador of China Jiang Zaidong in Islamabad on Thursday, the Prime Minister’s Office media wing said in a statement.
The Chinese envoy handed over a letter from President Xi Jinping, conveying appreciation for the Prime Minister’s letter on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

“Highlighting the positive trajectory in the bilateral relationship of the two countries, the Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen all-weather strategic partnership with China,” it said.
The Prime Minister also underscored the value of people-to-people contacts as well as exchanges between political parties and parliaments of the two countries.

During the meeting, matters related to bilateral cooperation and regional issues of mutual interest also came under discussion.
China reaffirms support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts
China last month had reaffirmed its strong support for Islamabad’s mediation efforts between the United States and Iran to promote the return of all parties to dialogue and negotiations, and achieve a lasting ceasefire.
During the meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged Beijing’s continued support for Islamabad’s role in promoting dialogue, advancing negotiations and securing a lasting ceasefire between the US and Iran.
He said Beijing would continue to firmly support its southwestern neighbour in encouraging all parties to return to dialogue and negotiations to achieve a durable peace.
The Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said the two firnedly nations should actively advance high-level exchanges and expand practical cooperation across various sectors to accelerate the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future
Islamabad-Beijing to closely cooperate against Afghanistan-based terrorism
Islamabad and Beijing have also agreed to closely cooperate against Afghanistan-based terrorism, reaffirming their shared commitment to countering terrorist threats emanating from Afghan territory and enhancing bilateral coordination to safeguard regional peace, security and stability.

The understanding was reached on Monday during a visit to Islamabad by China’s Special Representative for Afghan Affairs, Ambassador Yue Xiaoyong, who held delegation-level talks with Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq, and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Sadiq said the two sides held productive discussions on the regional security situation and recent developments in Afghanistan. He said both countries exchanged views on the threats posed by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), which they said continue to operate from Afghan soil.
According to Sadiq, Islamabad and Beijing agreed to strengthen bilateral coordination and deepen cooperation to counter terrorism and contribute to regional peace, security and stability.
The discussions took place amid a worsening security situation in Islamabad, with Pakistan maintaining that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) continues to operate from Afghan territory and launch cross-border attacks into the country.
