PORT OF SPAIN: Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique produced a superb unbeaten 160 to join an elite group of the country’s batting greats during the second and final Test against West Indies at Queen’s Park Oval.
The 26-year-old registered his sixth Test century to help Pakistan secure a valuable 43-run first-innings lead after the visitors were bowled out for 387 in reply to West Indies’ 344.
Shafique carried his bat throughout the innings, facing 323 deliveries and striking 15 fours and three sixes in a composed knock that anchored Pakistan’s batting effort.
The innings made him only the fifth Pakistan batter to score 150 or more in a Test innings against West Indies on Caribbean soil, joining Hanif Mohammad, Wazir Mohammad, Majid Khan and Saeed Ahmed.

Hanif Mohammad continues to hold the record for the highest individual Test score by a Pakistan batter against West Indies in the Caribbean with his iconic 337 in Bridgetown in 1958.

Earlier, Shafique and Sajid Khan extended their seventh-wicket partnership to 59 before Jayden Seales dismissed Sajid for a valuable 30. Shafique then added another 17 runs with Ali Usman, who contributed 10 before falling to left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican.
Warrican was the pick of the West Indies bowlers, claiming 6-112 from 46 overs. Shamar Joseph took two wickets, while Seales finished with one.
Shafique’s marathon innings strengthened Pakistan’s position in the contest and further underlined his growing stature in the Test side as the visitors looked to secure victory in the series finale.
