RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a phone conversation with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi during which the two sides discussed strengthening joint efforts to ensure freedom of maritime navigation in accordance with international law.
They also reaffirmed their condemnation and denunciation of the attacks carried out by Iran and its affiliated terrorist militias in Yemen and Iraq against the Kingdom and other countries in the region, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
During the call, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the region and ways to strengthen and support joint efforts to preserve regional security and stability.

Saudi, Iranian foreign ministers discuss Strait of Hormuz security
Earlier, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed security in the Strait of Hormuz during a telephone call on Tuesday.
The two foreign ministers spoke as stakeholders in the Middle East conflict have stepped up diplomatic engagement following months of hostilities between Iran and the US.
Prince Faisal on Monday also held a phone call with his Omani counterpart, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Albusaidi, during which the two ministers discussed regional developments and the security of the Strait of Hormuz.
During the call, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

They also exchanged views on the latest regional developments and stressed the importance of enhancing coordination and consultation and advancing joint diplomatic efforts to preserve security and stability in the region, as well as to ensure the safety and freedom of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints, carrying about 20 per cent of global oil consumption and serving as the principal export route for oil producers in the Gulf region.
Iran has maintained control over the strait since the outbreak of the Middle East conflict on February 28, disrupting commercial shipping and raising concerns over global energy supplies and trade flows. On the other hand, the US has imposed a naval blockade of Iran.
Hostilities have eased in recent days, however, raising hopes that diplomatic efforts by regional powers could help prevent further escalation and ensure the continued security of maritime trade through the Arabian Gulf.
