KABUL, Afghanistan: Armed resistance against Afghanistan’s Taliban regime has intensified in the northeastern Badakhshan province as anti-Taliban groups launched a series of attacks on Taliban forces.
The latest clashes, in Zebak district, entered a second week on Monday, according to local residents and anti-Taliban groups.
The fighting marks one of the most serious episodes of armed resistance in Badakhshan since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021, according to Amu TV.
In the last 48 hours, more than 2,000 young men from Badakhshan, Balkh, Panjshir, Bamyan, Kunduz, and across Afghanistan have joined the ranks of the sacred resistance against the Taliban.

The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) said it launched a rocket attack on a Taliban military convoy travelling from Kabul to Badakhshan, killing seven Taliban regime personnel and seriously wounding six others.
According to the group, the attack took place in Doshi district of Baghlan province after its fighters tracked the convoy from Kabul to the Northern Salang area. The convoy was transporting Taliban reinforcements and military equipment to Badakhshan, the AFF said on its official X account.

The group added that none of its fighters was injured during the operation.
On Sunday, Afghanistan Freedom Front said that its fighters launched an attack on a Taliban regime’s checkpoint in the village of Kasa Dara, Qasan-e Andarab District of Baghlan Province.
“AFF fighters attacked the enemy position from two directions, firing several rockets and using light weapons. The attack inflicted casualties on the Taliban. However, the exact number of Taliban militia killed or wounded has not yet been confirmed,” the resistance group said.

The AFF also claimed its fighters shot down two Taliban military drones in Zebak district and inflicted heavy casualties during subsequent clashes over the past two days.

According to the resistance group, four Taliban commanders were killed, including Zebak unit commander Mullah Shadab, along with commanders Maulvi Gul Ahmadi, Mullah Faridullah and Qari Umari Lazari, who it said commanded border companies in the district.
Fighting continues across Badakhshan
According to Amu TV, residents and Taliban regime sources said fighting continued for several hours overnight in different parts of Zebak district, which has become the focal point of the recent violence.
The AFF also confirmed that clashes were continuing.
The broadcaster reported that the latest fighting followed more than a week of intermittent attacks by armed groups opposed to the Taliban regime across several districts of Badakhshan.

Last week, the Homeland Soldiers Front seized control of Yaftal-e Payin district before Taliban regime forces regained the area several hours later, according to Amu TV.
Since then, the AFF has reported continued operations in Zebak.
Residents told the broadcaster that heightened military activity had transformed parts of the district into a heavily militarised area.
“Fighting has continued in several districts, and people remain deeply concerned about the security situation,” one resident of Badakhshan, speaking anonymously for security reasons, told Amu TV.
Local elders and Taliban regime sources in Yaftal-e Payin told the broadcaster that opposition fighters later withdrew from the district.
According to reports, fighting is ongoing in four districts of Badakhshan Province. The Front for Freedom and Homeland Corps forces have made advances in some areas during their guerrilla operations.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed fighting in Yaftal-e Payin and Zebak but said such incidents occur in every country.
“If you compare this with other countries, such incidents happen everywhere, but here they are turned into propaganda,” Mujahid was quoted by Amu TV as saying.
Former Vice President predicts stronger resistance
Former Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh said the Taliban regime was not a legitimate government and argued that political and armed resistance against it would become more organised, eventually leading to the end of Taliban rule.
His comments came as anti-Taliban groups reported increased military activity across northeastern Afghanistan.
Security analyst Asadullah Nadim told Amu TV that the recent fighting demonstrated that anti-Taliban groups remained capable of launching coordinated operations.
He said the clashes underscored Badakhshan province’s strategic importance for both the Taliban and armed opposition groups.
Another security analyst, Bismillah Taban, told the broadcaster that the violence showed armed opposition activity continued in northeastern Afghanistan despite repeated Taliban regime assertions that security had been restored nationwide.
He said the clashes suggested opposition groups retained the ability to challenge Taliban regime forces in remote areas.
On Sunday, the Taliban governor of Badakhshan urged armed opposition groups to lay down their weapons and said grievances should be resolved through dialogue with the Taliban regime, according to Amu TV.
National Resistance Front reports attack
Meanwhile, the National Resistance Front (NRF) said its fighters attacked a Taliban regime position in Kuran Wa Munjan district of Badakhshan on Sunday night.
According to Afghanistan International, the NRF said one Taliban fighter was killed and two others were wounded during the operation, which it said took place at around 1 a.m. in the Shahran area of Munjan.
Local sources also confirmed the attack to Afghanistan International.
The broadcaster said the attack came amid increased military activity by anti-Taliban groups in Badakhshan.
