ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on Saturday reaffirmed their commitment to continued diplomacy and constructive engagement to promote peace and stability in the region amid the ongoing escalation between the US and Iran.
The commitment was reiterated during a telephone conversation between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said.
During the conversation, the two leaders exchanged views on the latest regional developments and reaffirmed the close and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, the Foreign Office stated.
Deputy PM Dar and Foreign Minister Prince Faisal underscored the importance of continued diplomacy and shared their commitment to promoting constructive engagement, peace, and stability in the region.

Pakistan seeks permanent settlement of US-Iran conflict
On Friday, Deputy PM Dar called upon the international community to seize the opportunity provided by the Islamabad MoU and the ongoing technical negotiations to push for a permanent, peaceful and durable settlement of the Iran-US conflict.
The Islamabad MoU, brokered by Pakistan, was signed in June to end hostilities between the two countries and pave the way for a lasting peace agreement to permanently end the conflict.
The Islamabad MoU was signed on June 18 by US President Donald Trump, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, following Islamabad brokered a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.
Under the Islamabad MoU, the US and Iran committed to halt military operations, reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, and negotiate a comprehensive agreement covering Iran’s nuclear programme, US sanctions, and a permanent ceasefire within 60 days.
Addressing the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Deputy PM Dar said Pakistan firmly believes that dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect provide the only sustainable way forward to resolve conflicts and achieve durable peace and security.
He noted Pakistan facilitated and hosted the Islamabad Talks between Iran and the United States on 10-11 April 2026, enabling the first high-level direct diplomatic contacts between the two sides after 47 years.

“The diplomatic process, thus initiated, culminated in the signing of the Islamabad MoU, in June 2026,” Dar said.
He went on to say this historic breakthrough became possible as a result of Pakistan’s close engagement with the two parties, the United States and Iran, complemented by Islamabad’s intensive diplomatic outreach to regional and international partners.
Ishaq Dar added that Pakistan deeply appreciates the trust and confidence reposed in it by both Iran and the US in undertaking this challenging responsibility, in the larger interest of peace and security,” he said.
“At the same time, we must remain vigilant against those who seek to undermine regional stability. Such actors will exploit every opportunity to derail the peace process and reverse the progress achieved,” he warned.

China backs Pakistan’s mediation efforts
China on Saturday reaffirmed its strong support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts between the US and Iran to promote the return of all parties to dialogue and negotiations, and achieve a lasting ceasefire.
Pakistan’s Deputy PM Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, China’s Foreign Ministry said.
During the meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged Beijing’s continued support for Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue, advancing negotiations and securing a lasting ceasefire between the US and Iran.
Wang said China highly appreciated Pakistan’s key role in facilitating the Islamabad MoU reached between the United States and Iran, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian.
He said Beijing would continue to firmly support Pakistan in encouraging all parties to return to dialogue and negotiations to achieve a durable peace.
The Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said China and Pakistan should actively advance high-level exchanges and expand practical cooperation across various sectors to accelerate the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future.

Pakistan intensifies diplomatic efforts
Pakistan on Thursday said it is intensifying diplomatic efforts to preserve the US-Iran ceasefire and prevent a wider conflict in the Middle East
Pakistan reaffirmed its support for dialogue, regional stability and the implementation of the Islamabad MoU.
Speaking at the weekly press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan remains engaged with regional and international partners to encourage de-escalation as tensions persist despite the ceasefire.
“Pakistan is continuing its diplomatic outreach in support of dialogue and diplomacy.” Andrabi said and added that Pakistan continues to view dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path to lasting peace and has maintained close engagement with countries across the region to prevent renewed hostilities.
