RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned Friday’s terrorist attack on a security checkpoint in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which killed at least 14 security personnel and one civilian.
In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry reaffirmed the Kingdom’s “firm rejection of violence, terrorism and extremism in all their forms” and expressed solidarity with Pakistan in the wake of the attack.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s strongest condemnation of the bombing that targeted a security checkpoint in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in northwestern Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of several military personnel and one civilian,” a statement released by the Saudi Press Agency SPA said.
The ministry also extended its condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
The attack occurred when a suicide bomber, backed by armed terrorists, targeted a joint security checkpoint in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province bordering Afghanistan.
According to Pakistani authorities, the attackers attempted to storm the checkpoint before detonating an explosives-laden vehicle at its perimeter.
Security forces said they repelled the assault, killing several of the attackers during the ensuing gun battle.
Pakistani officials have blamed the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and allied terrorist groups for much of the recent violence in the region.
