Pakistan’s Lahore Qalandars Ready for Global Super League 2026 Campaign

LAHORE: The third edition of the Global Super League (GSL) is set to begin on July 23 in Guyana, with Pakistan’s Lahore Qalandars among five top franchise teams competing for the title.

The tournament, organised by Cricket West Indies, will see defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors face stiff competition from Lahore Qalandars, Perth Scorchers XI, San Francisco Unicorns and Desert Vipers across 12 matches at the Providence Stadium.

Qalandars eye strong start

Lahore Qalandars will kick off their campaign against BBL 2025-26 champions Perth Scorchers XI in the tournament opener on July 23 at 10 AM local time. Experienced New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell has been appointed captain for the tournament, with former Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait taking charge as head coach.

The Qalandars squad features a blend of emerging Pakistani talent and international players. The team includes Ali Shabbir, Muhammad Basit, Shahab Khan, Farhan Yousaf, Mehran Mumtaz, Imran Randhawa, Usama Mir, Abdullah Shafique, Delano Potgieter, Shayan Jahangir, Parvez Hossain Emon and Michael Bracewell.

Franchise owner Atif Rana confirmed that the GSL squad has been built around young and emerging talent, providing promising Pakistani players with international exposure. “Lahore Qalandars have arrived in Guyana ahead of the GSL, with franchise owner reaffirming the team’s long-term commitment to developing Pakistan’s next generation of cricketers through international exposure,” the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

Tournament format and schedule

The GSL follows a single round-robin format where five teams will face each other once, with the top-ranked team qualifying directly for the final. The second and third-placed teams will compete in a Qualifier on July 31 to determine the second finalist. The grand final is scheduled for August 1, with all matches at 7 PM local time.

Guyana Amazon Warriors are the defending champions, having won the previous edition by beating Rangpur Riders by 32 runs in the final.

Full schedule

The tournament kicks off with a double-header on July 23. Lahore Qalandars face Perth Scorchers XI in the opening match at 10 AM local time (7:30 PM IST), followed by Guyana Amazon Warriors taking on San Francisco Unicorns at 7 PM local (4:30 AM IST next day) at the Providence Stadium, Guyana.

On July 24, Desert Vipers will take on Lahore Qalandars at 10 AM local time. July 25 will feature two matches: Guyana Amazon Warriors face Desert Vipers at 7 PM, while Perth Scorchers XI meet San Francisco Unicorns at 10 AM local.

July 26 brings a crucial clash as Guyana Amazon Warriors host Lahore Qalandars at 7 PM local. July 27 sees Desert Vipers take on San Francisco Unicorns at 7 PM local. July 28 features Desert Vipers against Perth Scorchers XI at the same time.

On July 29, Lahore Qalandars face San Francisco Unicorns at 10 AM local, followed by Guyana Amazon Warriors taking on Perth Scorchers XI at 7 PM local. The Qualifier will be held on July 31 at 7 PM local, with the Final scheduled for August 1 at the same time.
