ADEN, Yemen: The Saudi Masam Project removed 1,786 landmines from across Yemen during the third week of July as part of its ongoing humanitarian demining campaign.
The project, funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), dismantled 70 anti-tank mines, 23 anti-personnel mines, 1,688 unexploded ordnance items, and five explosive devices, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.
The Masam Project has removed 4,286 landmines across Yemen since the beginning of July, bringing the total number of mines cleared since the project’s launch to 575,411.
The mines had been planted indiscriminately, posing a serious threat to civilians, including children, women, and the elderly.
Through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), Saudi Arabia continues to support humanitarian demining efforts in Yemen under the Masam Project.
The initiative aims to improve civilian safety, restore secure access to affected areas, and help Yemeni communities live in safety and dignity.
