TEHRAN, Iran: Fresh violence swept across the Middle East early Monday as the United States launched another wave of strikes on Iran, Kuwait said it intercepted drones, Bahrain activated air raid sirens, and Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed to have struck an “enemy command centre” in Syria.
The latest escalation came after US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced late Sunday that it had begun a ninth consecutive night of strikes targeting what it described as Iranian military capabilities used to attack commercial shipping and civilian mariners in the Strait of Hormuz.
The renewed attacks underscore the collapse of preliminary diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, with both sides locked in a confrontation over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil supplies.
CENTCOM began conducting a new wave of strikes against Iran at 7 p.m. ET today for the ninth consecutive night. The strikes will continue degrading Iranian military capabilities used to attack commercial vessels and civilian mariners transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Kuwait’s military said its air defence systems intercepted hostile drones following what it described as Iranian aggression. The army said explosions heard across the country were caused by air defence systems engaging incoming aerial threats.
Bahrain’s Interior Ministry also activated air raid sirens and urged citizens and residents to seek shelter in the nearest safe location.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they carried out a “surprise attack” on what they described as an enemy special operations command centre in Syria’s Al-Tanf region, saying the strike was in retaliation for the deaths of Iranian soldiers from Iranshahr.
Tehran said on Sunday it had also targeted two US military bases in Kuwait in response to more than a week of US attacks, which Iranian officials say have damaged transport infrastructure and an under-construction nuclear power plant. Jordan also reported intercepting missiles.
US Casualties Rise
The latest exchanges followed a deadly weekend for US forces. CENTCOM said two American service members were killed during Iranian missile and drone attacks in Jordan on Friday, while another died in northern Iraq during the controlled disposal of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian drone. One US service member remains missing.

President Donald Trump said the latest US strikes had “hit them very hard again tonight” in response to the American casualties.
The deaths raise the confirmed number of US military personnel killed since the conflict began on February 28 to 17.
Iran’s Health Ministry said on Friday that at least 50 people had been killed and more than 500 injured in recent fighting.
Strait of Hormuz Remains Flashpoint
The Strait of Hormuz remains the central flashpoint in the conflict. Before the war, around one-fifth of global oil supplies passed through the strategic waterway.
Iran has effectively blocked the passage since the conflict began, while the United States has tightened restrictions on Iranian ports.
The Revolutionary Guards said two vessels attempting to transit the strait were stopped after what they described as unsafe navigation, while two other ships turned back.
Nuclear Site Concerns
Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation accused the United States of attacking the unfinished Darkhovin nuclear power plant in southwest Iran, calling the strike a violation of international law.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it was reviewing the reports, noting that the facility contained no nuclear material during its last inspection.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi again urged all parties to exercise military restraint around nuclear-related facilities.
Iran’s senior military commander Ali Abdollahi warned that any further US military action would receive what he described as a “decisive and devastating response.”
