ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al-Malkiy, has appreciated Islamabad’s continued efforts for regional peace and security and its leading role in mediating the Islamabad MoU between the United States and Iran.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Wednesday, a Foreign Office statement said.
“They exchanged views on the latest regional developments following the signing of the Islamabad MoU and emphasized advancing collective efforts aimed at facilitating dialogue and diplomacy.” It said.

The Ambassador conveyed appreciation for Pakistan’s continued efforts for regional peace and security, including through R-4 and Pakistan’s leading role in mediating the Islamabad MoU.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations in all areas of mutual interest.
US, Iran Trade Fresh Strikes as Hormuz Tensions Escalate
Earlier, the United States and Iran traded fresh military strikes, with Tehran saying it launched missile and drone attacks on US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait after Washington struck more than 80 targets across Iran and tightened economic pressure by revoking a key oil sales licence, deepening fears of a wider regional conflict and further straining the ceasefire.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had targeted dozens of US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait in what it described as an initial response to American attacks.
The United States had launched a new wave of strikes against Iran and revoked a licence allowing Tehran to sell oil after three tankers were hit by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, further straining the ceasefire reached last month.
Saudi Arabia Condemns Iran’s Targeting of Saudi and Qatari Tankers
Saudi Arabia on Tuesday strongly condemned Iran’s targeting of a Saudi tanker and a Qatari vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, saying the attacks threatened international maritime navigation and global energy supplies.

In a statement, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks on the Saudi tanker Wedyan and the Qatari tanker Al-Rekayyat while they were transiting the strategic waterway constituted “an assault on the security and safety of international maritime navigation, and on the security of global energy supplies”.
“The Kingdom further emphasises that Iran’s continued perpetration of these attacks constitutes a grave violation of international law, international norms, and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which guarantee freedom of maritime navigation and the safe passage of ships through international waterways,” the statement added.
