RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned the terrorist attack in the Syrian capital, Damascus, which injured a number of civilians and security personnel.

Saudi Foreign Ministry, in a statement on Tuesday, reiterated its categorical rejection of all terrorist and extremist acts that attempt to destabilise the security and stability of Syria and its people.

The Foreign Ministry also expressed its sincere sympathy to the families of the injured and to the government and people of Syria over this tragic incident, wishing continued security and safety for Syria and its people.

Earlier, two explosions rocked central Damascus, injuring at least 18 people, according to local authorities.

Syria’s Interior Ministry said four police officers were among those wounded in the blasts, the state news agency SANA reported.

Authorities have sealed off roads, and an investigation is underway.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the two explosive devices were improvised. One was placed inside a vehicle parked along the roadside, while the other was concealed in a trash container,” the Interior Ministry said, as cited by SANA.

The explosions were the second reported in Damascus within a week. Last Thursday, a bombing at a café in the Syrian capital killed 10 people.
