RAWALPINDI: Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday appreciated Pakistan’s constructive and responsible role in promoting dialogue, de-escalation and regional stability during a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
The Iranian President arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday on an official visit. The one-day visit comes just days after Pakistan and Qatar facilitated direct talks between Iran and the United States in Switzerland, under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which established a 60-day roadmap for negotiations aimed at reducing regional tensions.
Field Marshal Asim Munir called on the Iranian President in Islamabad, during which views on regional developments and peace initiatives were exchanged, the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a statement.
During the meeting, the Iranian President appreciated Pakistan’s constructive and responsible role in promoting dialogue, de-escalation, and regional stability.
President Pezeshkian acknowledged Pakistan’s consistent efforts to encourage the peaceful resolution of disputes and foster understanding among regional stakeholders at a time of heightened geopolitical challenges.
Field Marshal Munir reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace and stability in the region.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations and maintaining close consultations on issues of mutual interest, with the shared objective of advancing peace, prosperity and stability across the region, ISPR stated.
Earlier, upon arrival in Islamabad, the Iranian President was given a red-carpet welcome and a guard of honour on arrival. He was received by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and other senior leadership.
