ISLAMABAD: China has expressed its steadfast and continued support for Pakistan’s active mediation role aimed at promoting durable peace, regional stability, and constructive diplomatic engagement across the region.

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong said this during a meeting with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, at the Foreign Ministry on Monday.

During the meeting, Ishaq Dar shared the developments related to the High-Level Talks on the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, according to the Foreign Office.

“He also recalled his recent visit to Cairo, where he had participated in the R-4 Regional Foreign Ministers’ Meeting alongside the Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye to advance collective efforts aimed at facilitating dialogue and peaceful resolution of issues,” it said.

Appreciating China’s consistent support for Pakistan’s peace efforts, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister lauded Beijing’s key role in promoting the peace process, particularly President Xi Jinping’s Four-Point Proposal and the China-Pakistan Five-Point Initiative.

The Chinese Ambassador conveyed Beijing’s appreciation for Pakistan’s effective role in de-escalation and reaffirmed China’s continued support for Islamabad’s mediation efforts aimed at ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region.

Both sides emphasised the need for sustained diplomatic engagement and the peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues through dialogue and negotiations.

“DPM/FM reaffirmed the commitment to continued consultations and coordination with China to advance the shared goals of peace, stability and common development, as well as to further deepen the Pakistan–China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership,” it said.

Earlier, the United States and Iran agreed on a 60-day roadmap towards a final agreement following the conclusion of high-level talks in Switzerland mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, according to a joint statement.

The first session of negotiations under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding concluded at the Burgenstock resort overlooking Lake Lucerne, bringing together representatives of Iran, the United States, Pakistan and Qatar.

In a joint statement, the mediating countries described the Lake Lucerne Summit as having been conducted in a “positive and constructive atmosphere” and said “encouraging progress” had been achieved, including the establishment of a mechanism for further technical negotiations.

The two mediating countries also expressed appreciation to the United States and Iran for their commitment to diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution, while thanking friendly countries for supporting the ongoing negotiations.
