Pakistan continues constructive diplomatic role as US-Iran technical-level talks follow Islamabad MoU

BÜRGENSTOCK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, met the Iranian delegation in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, on June 21 during US-Iran technical-level talks being held as a follow-up to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

The Iranian delegation was led by Speaker of the Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Pakistan’s diplomatic role

The meeting highlighted Pakistan’s continued commitment to constructive dialogue, regional stability and peaceful diplomatic engagement at a critical stage of US-Iran talks.

Officials said Pakistan’s participation reflects its balanced and responsible approach in facilitating communication between key regional and international stakeholders.

The Islamabad MoU has emerged as an important diplomatic framework for taking forward understandings between the United States and Iran.

Focus on regional peace

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for dialogue-based solutions and peaceful cooperation in the region.

The Switzerland talks are being viewed as a significant continuation of Pakistan’s facilitative efforts, which have helped create space for engagement and confidence-building.

Officials said Pakistan remains committed to supporting initiatives that reduce tensions, encourage diplomacy and promote long-term stability in the wider region.

The meeting with the Iranian delegation reaffirmed Pakistan’s positive role as a bridge for dialogue and a responsible partner in efforts aimed at peace.
