BIRMINGHAM: India posted 170-6 against Pakistan in their opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Edgbaston on Sunday, setting a target of 171 runs.
Opener Smriti Mandhana led the batting effort with a fluent half-century as India recovered from early setbacks after being put in to bat.
Shafali Verma gave India a brisk start with a six off the first ball but was dismissed in the same over by Sadia Iqbal.
India slipped further when Jemimah Rodrigues was dismissed for one run, leaving the side under pressure at 18-2.
Mandhana, however, steadied the innings and built a crucial 91-run partnership with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur to guide India past the 100-run mark.
Mandhana scored 68 off 44 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes, before being dismissed by Rameen Shamim.
Harmanpreet contributed 36 off 35 deliveries, striking four boundaries, before falling to Fatima Sana.
In the closing overs, Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma added quick runs to push India beyond 150.
Ghosh made a rapid 17-ball 34 with five boundaries and a six before being dismissed by Fatima Sana in the final over, while Deepti remained unbeaten on 12.
For Pakistan, Sadia Iqbal and Fatima Sana took two wickets each, while Tasmia Rubab and Rameen Shamim claimed one wicket apiece.
