MANAMA: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Wednesday said that Iran’s hostile actions were eroding trust and hindering prospects for constructive dialogue in the region.

The GCC, in a statement issued after the 167th session of the Ministerial Council in Manama, Bahrain, emphasised that aggression does not foster positive relations or contribute to mutual understanding and reconciliation.

It stressed the importance of diplomacy, cooperation, and respect for international norms in maintaining regional stability.

“The Ministerial Council condemns in the strongest terms these brutal Iranian attacks against the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and considers them a blatant aggression against the sovereignty of states, the security of their peoples and the safety of their territories, as well as a flagrant violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of good neighbourliness,” the statement said.

The statement further warned that Iran’s continued confrontational policies could deepen its isolation and exacerbate tensions, undermining efforts to strengthen regional security, stability, and cooperation.

The Council affirmed that the security of the GCC states is indivisible, and that any attack against one of them is an attack against them all.

“The Council holds Iran fully responsible for these acts and their grave repercussions on the security of the region, international navigation and energy supplies, and demands their immediate cessation and a complete end to any targeting of the GCC states, their interests and their citizens,” the statement said.

The Council called upon the Security Council and the international community to assume their responsibilities in condemning this aggression and holding its perpetrators accountable, in a manner that ensures respect for the sovereignty of states and the preservation of regional and international peace and security.

The meeting of the GCC for the Arab States of the Gulf was held in Manama under the chairmanship of Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani.

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, represented the Kingdom at the meeting.

The GCC Ministerial Council regularly convenes to review developments across the region and advance collective positions on international and regional issues affecting member states.
