Intelligence-Based Operation in AJK Leads to Arrest of Five Suspects

Security officials say timely action helped avert potential threats to public safety and sensitive installations

MUZAFFARABAD: Security forces in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have arrested five suspects in an intelligence-based operation in the Chehla area of Muzaffarabad, recovering weapons, communication equipment and other materials, according to security officials.

According to the officials, the operation was launched following actionable intelligence regarding suspicious activities in the area. During the raid, authorities also seized laptops, mobile phones and other communication devices from the suspects.

Officials said preliminary investigations had uncovered evidence of suspicious contacts and sensitive material.

During questioning, one of the suspects led investigators to a large cache of weapons, including automatic firearms, grenades and other military-grade equipment.

Security officials further said investigators had recovered maps of sensitive installations and material linked to plans targeting key locations. Evidence of contacts with hostile intelligence elements has also emerged during the investigation and is being examined as part of the inquiry.

Authorities said forensic analysis of the recovered digital devices and documents was underway, while efforts were continuing to identify possible facilitators and sources of financial support linked to the network.

Officials maintained that the timely operation helped prevent potential threats to public safety and protected sensitive installations from possible attacks.

The development comes amid heightened security vigilance in Azad Jammu and Kashmir ahead of upcoming political activities and elections scheduled for July 27.

Security in Azad Jammu and Kashmir has been beefed up after recent attempts by hostile elements to create instability through misinformation campaigns and efforts aimed at disturbing peace and public order.

Security officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining stability in the region and said operations against individuals involved in activities threatening national security would continue.
