Pakistan’s President Emphasises People-Focused Budget in Meeting with PM Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has underscored the need for a people-focused federal budget, urging the government to prioritise public welfare, economic stability, and provincial rights in its fiscal planning for the coming year.

President Zardari said this during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the presidency in Islamabad, during which they discussed key national and regional issues, an official statement said.

The meeting focused on the country’s security situation, regional developments, and matters of national importance, including economic conditions, the upcoming federal budget, recent elections in Gilgit-Baltistan, the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and law and order across the country.

During discussions on budgetary proposals, President Zardari stressed the need to prioritise public welfare, economic stability, and provincial rights in the next fiscal year’s budget.

He also called for aligning economic growth initiatives with public relief measures to ensure broader benefits for citizens.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed the president on his recent visit to Iran and ongoing regional diplomatic engagements.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah.

Also present were Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Faisal Rathore, and Member of the National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf.
