JERUSALEM/TEHRAN: The Israeli military said on Monday that it had carried out air strikes against military targets in western and central Iran, while Iranian state media reported explosions in several major cities.
“A short while ago, the Israeli Air Force struck military targets belonging to the Iranian terror regime in western and central Iran,” the Israeli military said in a statement posted on Telegram.
Iranian state television later reported explosions in the capital Tehran as well as in the cities of Tabriz and Isfahan.
“Several explosions heard in Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan,” state TV said in a message posted on Telegram.
The Israeli military did not immediately provide details about the targets that were struck or the extent of the operation.
There was no immediate information from Iranian authorities regarding casualties, damage or the nature of the sites affected.
The latest strikes come amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran following recent exchanges of attacks that have raised fears of a broader regional conflict.
Emergency services and security officials in Iran were assessing the situation, while further details were expected as authorities gathered information from the affected areas.
