RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports (GDP) is using advanced technologies, including self-service E-gates at international airports, to streamline departure procedures for post-Hajj pilgrims across all border ports.

These automated E-gates instantly match passengers’ biometric data, enabling pilgrims to complete passport control independently in just seconds, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Friday.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Interior, enhances passenger flow, reduces waiting times, and ensures a more seamless, efficient exit process for travelers.

In addition to speeding up departures, the system strengthens security by accurately verifying travelers’ identities and reducing the potential for human error.

The GDP also plans to expand these services to additional entry and exit points, further facilitating smooth border operations during peak travel periods.

Officials highlighted that the adoption of such smart technologies reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to leveraging innovation to improve the Hajj experience and overall airport efficiency.
