Pakistan, Iran Interior Ministers Hold Talks on Regional Security at SCO Summit

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni on Friday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference in Kyrgyzstan, where the two officials discussed regional security, bilateral cooperation and the evolving geopolitical landscape.

During the meeting, the ministers exchanged views on the security situation across the region and highlighted the importance of sustained cooperation to promote stability, peace and collective security, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said in a statement. They also discussed efforts aimed at easing regional tensions and addressing shared security challenges through closer coordination.

The talks included a review of Pakistan-Iran relations, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening engagement and cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The ministers emphasised the value of maintaining regular dialogue and enhancing collaboration between the two neighbouring countries.

Naqvi and Momeni also discussed recent regional developments and their potential impact on peace and security in the wider region. Both officials stressed the importance of diplomatic engagement and cooperative approaches in responding to emerging challenges.

The meeting took place on the margins of the SCO conference, a regional forum that brings together member states from across Eurasia to discuss security, economic cooperation and regional connectivity.

Pakistan and Iran share a long border and maintain diplomatic, economic and security ties. Both countries have continued to engage on issues including border security, counter-terrorism cooperation, trade and regional stability.
