MAKKAH: Five Hajj pilgrims from different countries received lifesaving medical treatment at specialised healthcare facilities in Makkah and Madinah after suffering serious cardiac emergencies during their pilgrimage.

Two African Hajj pilgrims received emergency treatment for life-threatening cardiac conditions at King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Sunday.

The patients, one from Somalia and the other from Senegal, were later discharged from hospital wearing smartwatches that enable medical teams to remotely monitor their health while they continue their pilgrimage.

In separate cases, two pilgrims from Southeast Asia — one from Indonesia and another from Myanmar — were also treated in the city after suffering heart attacks.

A fifth pilgrim, an Indian man in his 60s, was treated at the Madinah Cardiac Surgery and Disease Centre after experiencing a heart attack inside the Prophet’s Mosque.

Doctors found a clot in his main coronary artery and successfully treated it by inserting a stent.

He was subsequently discharged, also fitted with a smartwatch, allowing him to continue performing Hajj rituals under remote medical supervision.

These cases highlight the Kingdom’s capacity to provide rapid and advanced healthcare responses during the Hajj season.
