PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel killed eight more terrorists and injured several others in a counterterrorism operation in Bannu district of Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials said on Sunday. One police personnel was martyred and another injured during the counterterrorism operation.
The counterterrorism operation was carried out within the jurisdiction of Meryan police station in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said.
Following the operation, Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Zulfiqar Hameed praised the “bravery” of Bannu police personnel, according to a police statement.
The comprehensive counterterrorism operation comes days after an attack on a police post in Bannu in which 15 personnel of the police force were martyred.
Following the police post attack, the police force in Bannu has become more resilient and determined.
Security forces are now actively intensifying their efforts, closely tracking and tracing every movement and activity of Indian sponsored terrorists in the area.
Authorities said the terrorists would not weaken the resolve of Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies, adding that such actions further reinforce the determination to eliminate threats to peace.
Pakistan has zero tolerance for all forms of terrorism, and no group will be allowed to threaten peace and target innocent lives, security sources said.
The elimination of eight terrorists in Bannu reflects strong professional coordination between law enforcement agencies and is part of broader counterterrorism efforts against the Indian-sponsored and Afghan-based banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist group.
Facilitators and abetters of TTP terrorists must be held accountable by the World for their direct and indirect support to these terrorist groups.
16 terrorists in major operation
Pakistan Army, police, and other security agencies are continuing operations against Fitna al Khawarij terrorists with full intensity, security sources said on Sunday.
According to security sources, a joint operation was conducted by the Pakistan Army, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and police in the Miryan area of Bannu after receiving intelligence reports regarding the presence of terrorists in the area.
During the operation carried out a day earlier, 16 terrorists, including two key commanders, were killed, security sources said.
Among those killed were notorious Khawarij commander Zamri Noor, who was accused of spreading fear and terror in the area, and Afghan Khawarij commander Abdullah Saeed.
Security sources added that during the difficult operation, the Pakistan Army, police and CTD personnel also destroyed several terrorist hideouts.
Two police personnel embraced martyrdom while performing their duties during the operation.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies are continuing coordinated operations to eliminate terrorism from the country.
