LAHORE: A fighting unbeaten knock of 69 off 46 balls from Shan Masood rescued Multan Sultans from an early batting collapse, guiding them to a competitive total of 159 in the first eliminator of Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 11 at Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.

After Hyderabad Kingsmen captain Marnus Labuschagne won the toss and elected to field first, the Sultans, led by skipper Ashton Turner, struggled dramatically at the start. However, Masood held the innings together to set a target of 160 runs for the debutants to chase.
Top order crumbles
The Sultans got off to a shaky start, losing Steven Smith (13), Sahibzada Farhan (15), and Josh Philippe (6) within the first five overs to find themselves reeling at 36 for 3.
Captain Ashton Turner (9) and Arafat Minhas (1) also fell cheaply as Multan slipped to 52 for 5 in the seventh over.

Masood stands tall
Shan Masood held the innings together from one end, anchoring the Sultans with a mature and responsible display of batting. He found little support from the middle and lower order but remained unbeaten until the final ball, hitting four boundaries and four towering sixes in his 69-run knock.
Mohammad Nawaz contributed 18 off 19 balls, while Peter Siddle added a quick 9 off 8. Faisal Akram made 4 before being run out, and Muhammad Ismail remained not out on 1 as Multan finished on 159 for 9 after 20 overs.

Kingsmen bowling shines
Hyderabad’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance. Mohammad Ali, Akif Javed and Hunain Shah picked up two wickets each. Saim Ayub and Glenn Maxwell chipped in with one wicket apiece. The Kingsmen now need 160 runs to win and advance in the tournament.
