KARACHI: Peshawar Zalmi secured a commanding 24-run victory over Multan Sultans in the 22nd match of PSL 11 at the National Bank Stadium on Monday, defending their total of 196 with a disciplined bowling and fielding effort.
Chasing 197 runs for victory, Multan Sultans could only manage 172/8 in their 20 overs, falling well short of the target as Zalmi’s bowlers maintained consistent pressure throughout the innings.

Zalmi innings recap
Earlier, after being sent in to bat by Sultans captain Ashton Turner, Peshawar Zalmi posted a formidable 196/6. Kusal Mendis starred with a brilliant 68 off 40 balls, while Mohammad Haris provided an explosive start with 38 off just 17 deliveries. Farhan Yousaf contributed 30, and Iftikhar Ahmed added a late cameo of 10 off five balls.
For Multan Sultans, Peter Siddle and Muhammad Ismail claimed two wickets each.
Sultans chase falls short
In response, Multan Sultans lost opener Sahibzada Farhan early for 17. Steven Smith played a steady knock of 31 off 29 balls, while Josh Philippe smashed 32 off 17 deliveries. Shan Masood top-scored with a brisk 35 off 19 balls, and captain Ashton Turner added 20.
However, Peshawar Zalmi’s bowlers struck at regular intervals, never allowing the Sultans to build substantial partnerships.

Bowling heroes for Zalmi
Sufiyan Muqeem was the pick of the Peshawar Zalmi bowlers, claiming three crucial wickets for just 31 runs. Iftikhar Ahmed chipped in with two wickets, while Nahid Rana also bagged a brace. Aamer Jamal took one wicket to complete a well-rounded bowling performance.
The 24-run victory strengthens Peshawar Zalmi’s position at the top of the PSL 11 points table, while Multan Sultans suffer only their second defeat of the tournament. Zalmi’s comprehensive performance across batting, bowling, and fielding departments underscores their status as genuine title contenders this season.
