ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday strongly condemned the incident of “vandalism and unrest” targeting the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus.
In a statement, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said such acts were a violation of the sanctity and security of diplomatic missions under international law, including the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and undermined the norms of peaceful diplomatic engagement between states.
Pakistan reiterated its commitment to the principles of international law and diplomatic norms, and emphasised the importance of maintaining peace, stability and mutual respect among nations.

On Friday, Dozens of people gathered outside the UAE’s embassy in Damascus and tried to storm the embassy, Reuters reported.
Syria’s foreign ministry said in a statement on Friday evening that it took a “firm and unwavering stance” against any attack on or attempt to approach embassies and diplomatic missions.
The ministry emphasised that these premises are protected under international law and diplomatic agreements, and are considered a symbol of relations between states and peoples.
The United Arab Emirates on Saturday condemned “riots, acts of vandalism, and assaults” outside its embassy and the residence of its head of mission in Damascus.
In a statement, the UAE’s foreign ministry called on Syria to uphold its obligations to secure the embassy and its staff, investigate the incident and hold the perpetrators to account.
