ISLAMABAD: A high-level meeting at Pakistan’s Presidency on Monday discussed the evolving regional situation and its far-reaching implications for the country’s security and stability.

During the meeting between Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, emerging geopolitical dynamics, internal challenges, and the need for a unified and proactive national response came under discussion, according to a statement issued by the President’s office.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. Asim Malik were also present on the occasion.

Participants engaged in a detailed discussion on the overall national security situation, reviewing the evolving regional environment and assessing its potential implications for Pakistan.

The dialogue also covered critical economic and energy challenges facing the country.

Emphasising the importance of unity, the leadership underscored the need for a coordinated national strategy and stronger institutional collaboration to effectively respond to emerging threats and ensure long-term stability.

Earlier, Pakistan confirmed it holds adequate petroleum reserves and is preparing targeted relief measures for consumers, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assessed the impact of the ongoing Gulf conflict on energy supplies.

Pakistan has moved a step closer to hosting high-stakes talks between Iran and the United States, with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirming that both sides have expressed confidence in Islamabad’s role as a facilitator.

The development follows a quadrilateral meeting in Islamabad on Sunday, where the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt joined Pakistan to discuss the escalating Middle East crisis and pathways to de-escalation.
