ISLAMABAD: China has set a steady economic growth target of 4.5–5 per cent under its 15th Five-Year Plan, while signalling expanded strategic and technological cooperation with Pakistan, including a future joint space mission.
Speaking in Islamabad, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong described the plan as a “clear, confident signal” of China’s long-term stability, innovation-driven growth and strengthening global partnerships — with Pakistan central to Beijing’s regional vision.
Growth, trade outlook
China’s economy, now exceeding $20 trillion, is projected to maintain stable expansion, contributing nearly 30 per cent to global economic growth.
Total trade has reached $6.24 trillion, with exports accounting for over 14 per cent globally, while foreign direct investment stands at $174.3 billion, reflecting continued global confidence.
Innovation, tech push
China is accelerating its shift towards high-tech growth, with research spending at $522.8 billion and rising.
The artificial intelligence sector has surpassed $72 billion, while related industries exceed $290 billion.
The envoy also confirmed a Pakistani astronaut will join China’s space station mission in 2026, signalling deeper scientific collaboration.
Industry, green shift
Industrial growth remains strong, with electric vehicle production exceeding 12 million units, capturing over 40 per cent of the global market.
China also leads in digital infrastructure with 3.5 million 5G base stations, and renewable energy capacity surpassing 1.6 billion kilowatts, accounting for 55 per cent of total power capacity. Carbon intensity has declined by 20 per cent since 2020.
Pakistan partnership focus
Marking 75 years of diplomatic ties, China reaffirmed Pakistan as an “all-weather strategic partner.”
Under CPEC 2.0, both countries aim to boost economic growth, innovation and livelihoods.
Ongoing cooperation includes healthcare support in Balochistan and medical services for thousands in Gwadar.
