PYONGYANG, North Korea: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on his reported selection as Iran’s new leader, expressing confidence that he would continue his father’s legacy and confront Israel.

In a post circulating on X on Monday, Kim was quoted as saying North Korea was confident that Mojtaba Khamenei would “humiliate Israel and break its arrogance just as his father did,” referring to Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, following the ongoing confrontation involving Iran, Israel and the United States, which has raised global concerns over regional stability and security.

Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had long been viewed by some analysts as a potential successor within Iran’s leadership structure.

North Korea and Iran have historically maintained close diplomatic and strategic ties, often aligning in their opposition to Western influence and Israeli policies.

Kim’s statement signals continued political support from Pyongyang for Tehran at a time when geopolitical tensions in the region remain high.
