ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces have killed 481 Afghan Taliban fighters and injured more than 696 others since launching a cross-border offensive Operation Ghazab lil-Haq in retaliation for the unprovoked border aggression, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on Wednesday.
In an update posted on X, Tarar said 226 Taliban check posts had been destroyed and 35 captured during the operation, which was launched in response to “unprovoked action” from across the border.
He added that 198 tanks, armoured vehicles and artillery guns had been destroyed, while 56 locations across Afghanistan had been “effectively targeted by air”.
The latest toll marks an increase from 464 fighters reported killed a day earlier, the minister said.

‘Targets almost achieved’
Prime Minister’s political adviser Rana Sanaullah said Pakistan’s objectives in the operation had “almost been achieved” and were now being consolidated.
Speaking to Geo News after attending an in-camera briefing, Sanaullah said Pakistan’s only demand was that the Afghan Taliban “do not allow their soil to be used for terrorism against us”.
“So, if they back off from it, we have no fight with them,” he said.
Security sources said more than 50 locations were being targeted in a “calculated and strict operation”, using anti-tank guided missiles, rocket launchers, long-range mortars, light and heavy artillery and main battle tanks.

Air strikes and ground operations
State-run PTV, citing security sources, reported that Pakistan’s armed forces had destroyed the Khogani base in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province in a successful air operation.
Security sources said the Khogani base in Nangarhar had been targeted and destroyed, adding that Afghan Taliban and “Fitna Al Khawarij” elements were facing “strong pushback on all fronts”.
The New York Times, as quoted by PTV, reported that Pakistan’s strike on Bagram Air Base destroyed an aircraft hangar and two warehouses.
Satellite imagery showed flattened warehouses at the base, which had served as the nerve centre of the US war in Afghanistan, the report said.

Infiltration attempts foiled
Radio Pakistan, citing security sources, said an infiltration attempt by Afghan Taliban and “Fitna al Khawarij” near Torkham in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been foiled.
An Afghan Taliban ringleader was killed along with his associates while attempting to cross the border, the report said.
Official sources said an Afghan Taliban commander was killed in Landi Kotal after armed forces, acting on intelligence, targeted a group attempting to approach the Torkham border.
In Lakki Marwat district, a terrorist commander was killed in an intelligence-based operation in the Paharkhel Pacca area, police sources said.
The operation was jointly conducted by police, the Counter-Terrorism Department and security forces.
Station House Officer Abdul Muneem Khan of Ghaznikhel police station said law enforcement personnel had launched a search-and-strike operation after receiving information that militants were planning subversive activities in a hilly area.
The body of the commander was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Tajazai after an exchange of fire, he said.
In Bannu’s Domel tehsil, security sources said several militants were injured in quadcopter drone strikes.
A room near a tube well was targeted after intelligence reports of militant presence.
A second strike was launched when injured militants were being moved on motorcycles, the sources added.
Meanwhile, security sources said operations were conducted in several “sensitive sectors” of Balochistan, including Pishin, Loi Bund and Badini in Qila Saifullah; Sambaza and Ghadwana in Zhob; Jani and Ghaznali in Nushki; and Gulistan, Dobandi and Shashka in the Chiltan Range.
These areas were “being used for terrorist activities from across the border”, the sources said, adding that operations would continue until “the threats are fully neutralised and effective defence balance is restored in the border areas”.
Operation Ghazab lil-Haq remains underway and will continue until its objectives are achieved, security sources said.
