ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar spoke with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, and discussed the rapidly evolving regional situation.
“They stressed the need for sustained efforts to contain tensions, promote de‑escalation, and advance peace and stability in the region.
Both agreed to stay in close contact,” a statement issued by the Foreign Office said on Sunday.

The United States and Israel continued large-scale military operations against Iran on Sunday, a day after launching coordinated strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as Tehran vowed revenge and carried out retaliatory attacks across the region.
US President Donald Trump announced that “major combat operations” would continue uninterrupted throughout the week, or as long as necessary, following Saturday’s assault on Iranian military and strategic targets.
Tehran retaliated with drone and missile strikes that hit several Gulf countries.
Earlier, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended condolences to the government and people of Iran over the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in large-scale US–Israeli strikes.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also postponed his scheduled visit to Russia in light of the prevailing regional and domestic situation.
He was scheduled to visit Russia from 2nd to 5th March 2026.
